First Nations outcomes arising from RICTA meeting

RICTA founding meeting in Balmertown creating many spinoffs Researchers from universities from across Canada and the United States gathered last week in Balmertown for the founding meeting of Researching ICTs with Aboriginal Communities (RICTA), a research cluster funded by the Socials Sciences and Research Council... KORI and the National Research Council created RICTA to build a bridge between the academics and communities who are using technology to overcome historic and political challenges... RICTA members including faculty from nursing, education and library sciences listened to community concerns both in Deer Lake First Nation and during a video conference... A number of RICTA members expressed interest in pursuing some projects with communities... Claude Pike and his multimedia class at Kanatakon School at Akwesaskne participated in Friday's videoconference... He wants to continue the dialogue between his class and other elementary schools part of the First Nation Schools videoconferencing network...
